Featuring a classic Diana with her hunting companions, the overall size of the print is 21 1/2 x 29 inches with an image size of 16 x 21 inches. There is some very minor edge wear, but will not infringe on the art space when properly matted.
About the Artwork: Diana with Borzois – A Timeless Piece by Alberto Vargas
Originally created in 1930, this stunning watercolor on board captures Diana, the goddess of the hunt and the moon, in a dramatic pose accompanied by two Borzois. Diana, revered as the symbol of virgin purity and the protector of young women, is beautifully depicted in this iconic piece. This artwork is likely Alberto Vargas' largest-scale work, showcasing his exceptional talent and vision.
The model for this piece was Caja Eric, a renowned Ziegfeld beauty, whose elegance and grace were immortalized by Vargas. In the 1940s, the image of Diana was published in Esquire Magazine, with an acrylic overlay painted to comprise the green outfit, adding a distinctive touch to the original nude depiction. However, only one actual piece was ever produced in its original form.
The Lifetime Portfolio – Limited Edition Lithographs
In the late 1970s, Alberto Vargas was invited to produce a series of limited edition lithographs featuring some of his most iconic early works. As part of this project, Vargas selected five of his favorite Ziegfeld beauties to be reproduced. A total of 1,000 prints were authorized, with 500 designated for domestic distribution and 500 for international release.
