Originally painted by Alberto Vargas in the 1920s, this piece is from a 1970s era lithographic run that was signed by the artist.
Featuring an image of decadence evoking the themes from Baudelaire's 1857 work of poetry, the overall size of the print is 29 x 21 1/2 inches with an image size of 23 x 15 inches. There is some very minor edge wear, but will not infringe on the art space when properly matted.

While initially conceived as a nude, the subject was quickly modified with a "bashful Nellie" cover-up to satisfy a New York art director's requirements for a Miriam Hopkins movie advertisement. Once returned to Vargas, he restored his vision by altering the modest slip to reveal the subject’s elegance and allure.
The "Lifetime Portfolio" and Collector's Value
In the late 1970s, Alberto Vargas revisited some of his most iconic early works for a limited edition lithograph series known as the "Lifetime Portfolio." This series highlights five of Vargas' Ziegfeld-era masterpieces, including Fleurs du Mal.
Limited Production: Only 1,000 prints were authorized—500 for domestic distribution and 500 for international release. These prints feature a "Proxy Signature" by an authorized representative.
